What are the Operating Systems available with your VPS plans?

VPSHosting.com.hk’s VPS plans are currently available with Centos 6, Debian, Ubuntu and Windows Server (2008 R2 and 2012 R2)

Can I have a custom VPS?

Yes, we can create a custom plan for you based on your requirements. If our published plans do not meet your requirements, please contact us for a custom plan.

Can I operate OpenVPN on your Linux VPS?

Yes you can. In fact, we have many customers in China who are doing this in order to bypass the Great Firewall of China. Please note that TUN/TAP device is not enabled by default. You may purchase Linux VPS and then let us know if you need TUN/TAP device to be enabled for VPN purposes. Feel free to contact us for such requirements.

Do you offer a trial?

We can offer a trial on a case-to-case basis. However, we do offer a 14-day money-back guarantee on purchasing a cloud server so you can safely evaluate your cloud server.

What is the name (DNS) that I must use for the servers?

You are responsible for running your own DNS. This can be accomplished easily via your 3rd party name server or from your purchased VPS control panel.

What are the development languages/tools included?

All VPS servers come with GCC, Python, Perl, and PHP available to compile and run today’s highly-popular Open Source applications.

Who is InterNIC or HKDNR?

They are independent organizations (formed by the government) responsible for controlling domains. The InterNIC is responsible for US domains and HKDNR for HK domains.

Does your Linux VPS come with Tomcat?

Tomcat isn’t installed by default on Linux VPS (for both Plesk Plans and Bare Plans).

However we’ll be glad to help you with it and install the same.

Tomcat is known to be memory-intensive. So, we strongly recommend a Linux VPS with minimum 2GB of memory.

Does your Windows VPS come with MS SQL?

Our Windows VPS packages do not include MS SQL by default.

However if you need it, just let us know and we’ll be glad to help you. We can install MS SQL 2005/2008/2008 R2 Express Edition for you.

Please note that MS SQL is known to consume a lot of memory. So, we recommend a Windows VPS with at minimum 2GB of memory if you require MS SQL.

Is your VPS under a Managed Service?

A more appropriate term would be ‘Semi-Managed Service’.

That means that we’ll take care of Security Updates for the VPS, as well as the Systems Administration job. Please note that our scope for support would be limited to what we provide by default which is VPS Operating System and its related packages.

Should I choose Linux or Windows VPS?

This depends on what exactly you are using the VPS for. For instance:

1. If you simply want to use it for email purposes – either of the two platforms will do. Both VPS platforms support email services (POP3, IMAP, and SMTP) and webmail.
2. If you will use it for website hosting:

Choose “Linux” if you will need Apache web server, PHP and MySQL databases. Although PHP and MySQL also work on Windows, the performance is better on a Linux environment. Also, if you will use CMS such as Joomla, WordPress or Drupal, it’s ideal to use Linux.

3. If you will use Microsoft technologies such as ASP and ASP.NET, you should select “Windows” VPS.

What is Plesk PowerPack license?

Plesk PowerPack is an add-on component that will enhance your Plesk’s features with additional and powerful tools. PleskPP comes with the following features:

• Application Pack,
• SpamAssassin Anti-Spam Software,
• Multi-Level HelpDesk,
• Tomcat (JSP) Support,
• ColdFusionTM Support (license not included),
• MSSQL Server Support
• Language Pack.

This means that by having PowerPack, you can manage those applications within the Plesk control panel. For instance, if you have installed MSSQL (you can’t manage MSSQL on Plesk with the default license) and you have a PowerPack license – you can easily manage the databases within Plesk and there is no need to manage it anymore from SQL Management Studio.

I have placed an order, but have not received any phone call for the verification #. Is there any problem in my sign up?

Our System will call you automatically after you sign up the order, so please verify if the contact number you have provided is correct. We are pleased to do the sign up on your behalf, for which, we will require the following information:

If I sign up VPS L2000, is there any control panel installed?

We are providing the “power panel” for all the Bare Plans. You can also install other control panels or applications for your VPS anytime you want.

Can I upgrade/ downgrade my plan?

Sure, you can upgrade your plan anytime. To do so, you just need to send us an email on support@vpshosting.com.hk and tell us when you want to upgrade. For downgrades, once we finish the billing cycle, you can downgrade your plan anytime provided that there is no technical limitations preventing the downgrade. Just as with upgrades, you need to send us an email on support@vpshosting.com.hk regarding your downgrade request.

Do you support website migration?

Generally, we do not provide website migration. However we have a promotion that if you are switching from a competitor in Hong Kong, we can do a migration for you, free of cost. Click here for more details
